The Ragged Staff was
situated at 5-7 High Street, and was also known as The Salutation, The
Queens Head and The Live & Let Live. Closed in the 1950s, this grade-II listed
pub is now used as
a private house. |

building details: |
House, formerly an inn. C16,
reworked C19. Timber framed construction, part of E elevation rebuilt, with
colourwashed roughcast exterior and applied mock timber framing to front.
Clay tile roof. L-plan of 2 storeys, with single- storey lean-to addition to
rear of main block. Front: LH gable has canted bay with sash windows with
glazing bars to ground floor, and jettied first floor with sash window. Main
block has similar canted bay to R of ground floor, with sash window to L,
both with glazing bars, and 2 3-light casements to first floor. 6 panel door
in moulded surround with gabled hood. Yellow brick double ridge stacks to
both blocks serving back-to-back track hearths. Pierced wavy-edged
bargeboards to gables. |
