The Bull was situated at 115 High Street North.
This pub has now been converted to apartments. |

I was a teacher on exchange at Watling Primary
School in 1974. I was living in Radburn Court and taught at the school is in
Bull Pond Lane so I used to walk home via Union Street. I had this idea that
ALL Englishmen had a ‘local’ and since this was the nearest I decide to
adopt the Bull, and called in there fairly regularly.
I recall that, as I was about to return to Australia the Publican gave me a
towelling, bar coaster I think it is called, which advertised Trophy Bitter
as a memento of my time in Britain. I wasn’t very keen on English beer then
and probably had a lager in those days. My palate has matured somewhat and I
would now be open to trying more local beers.
I liked the intimate nature of the pub, and the friendly staff. |
