The Royal Oak was situated at 40 George Street. This pub was under Greene King ownership when it closed in 2016. A Grade II listed building which dates back to at least 1730, and originally known as The Red Cow, the premises was reputed to be haunted. The thatched roof suffered two separate fires - in March 1985 and January 2006. It has now been converted into an Italian restaurant.
