From The Good Pub Guide 1983: |
Friendly and welcoming, the
low-ceilinged and carpeted lounge bar has in its bow window that
unmistakeable stamp of a pub frequented by riding and racing men - a deeply
comfortable sofa. There are also tables set for meals (and except on Sunday
or Monday evenings you can book tables in the rattan-walled back dining-room
which looks out on the clear River lambour). Bar food includes ploughman's
(£1.20), home-made beefburgers (£1.95) and chicken Kiev (£2.95), with a
help-yourself buffet in summer (£2.75). There is also a set-price full meal
with coffee (£5.95). Well-kept Courage Best and Directors on handpump. You
may find a curly black spaniel in the public bar, which has darts, pool, a
fruit machine, juke box and space game. There are tables on a terrace by a
big willow and sycamore overhanging the stream, and more on a quiet lawn
with a swing - and weeping willows, deep red honeysuckle and other flowers. |
