The Red Lion was situated on the Market Place. This grade-II listed building, which dates from the 18th century has been converted into flats.
 

 
Listed building details:
Hotel. Market Place front - C19 block two storeys, slate roof, flanking chimney to left. Squared sarsen with brick quoins and dressings, 1st floor band, brick and sarsen plinth. 4 tall vertical sliding sash windows with glazing bars, near flush frames to 1st floor, 3 mullion and transom casements ground floor, 2nd from left incorporates door. Double door in 3 centred arched opening with stone key and imposts, radiating fanlight to right. To right of this, fronting Newbury Street, C18 block. 3 storeys, vitreous brick with red brick pilasters to full height of building. Hipped tiled roof central chimney, overhanging eaves. 1 window to Market Place, 4 vertical sliding sash windows, with glazing bars, in reveals to Newbury Street. Double doors in simple surround 2nd bay from right.
