I drank in The Harrow for a time but
only in the mid-day session for a fairly short while when I worked on
construction of the adjoining building to the left, the builders were
Archard and Quinion of Uxbridge. The landlord of the pub wasn't happy since
the new building was to be an off-licence on land that had originally been
part of the pub's land, a Courage pub in those days around 1967. At some
time prior to that, the land on which the new building was erected, had been
a blacksmith's and to the rear right corner was a well that was filled and
concreted before foundations could be installed. To the left-hand side of
the carpark was a large wooden barn, used as a timber merchants. I don't
recall the name of the Harrow's landlord but his wife's name was Dolly; they
had a very talkative mynah bird that sometimes perched outside, often
screeching "Doll's not well". |
