The Queens Head was situated on Chapel Street. This pub closed c1908 following the death of Emma Townsend the final landlord and the subsequent referral to the Compensation Authority. It was demolished in the 1950s.

The Queens Head, Thatcham
In this case the freeholders are the South Berkshire Brewery Co Ltd, Newbury and the licensee and occupier Mrs Emma Townsend.

Mr Vernon reported:
This is a brick and tile building on the main Bath Road.  Character (formerly two cottages). It contains on the ground floor a Passage, smoke room, inner parlour, large low-ceilinged taproom, Scullery and yard. On the top floor four bedrooms.
The rent paid by the Licensee is £18 per annum which includes two Cottages let at 3s and 2s 6d (less rates) leaving £9 for the beerhouse
The amount of compensation was put by Mr Vernon as £611 13s.
Mr C Lucas who represented the parties in this case claimed £516 an Amount which was amended by the Court to £500. This sum the Committee approved, the share of the owners being £450 and that Of the licensee £50
