The Queens Head was situated on Windsor Road.
This pub is now used as a private residence. |

I was sent to live with friends of my
parents (evacuated from London )circa 1941. My carers were the Davies family
Frank and Emily. Their sons were both in the Royal Navy and much older than
I was.
There was a beautiful rose garden where teas were served ( as rations
allowed )a fruit orchard (where lived a couple of pigs ) a vegetable garden
and a hay field. I remember chickens ( but no ducks ) and fruit canes of
berries and currants. The clientele were locals and servicemen and women (
mainly men ) from nearby military ( and ? naval ) establishments.
I located the Queens Head when on a visit back to UK in either 2001 or 2003
( I cannot recall exact trip date 0. At that time the pub was very run down
but under new ambitious ownership ( I believe brothers ) who were
anticipating updating menus etc and giving new life to the place. I am now
elderly and would like to have updated ( and historical ) information about
this pub where I spent time in my childhood. |
