The Bull & Butcher was situated at 85 The Green. |

I was an Aussie backpacker in 1988 living with a
local family in Aston Abbots. I had become mates with the scion of that clan
when he visited Australia and any kindness of mine was repaid many times
over. I worked in a factory in Aylesbury during the day & at the Bull &
Butcher, in the village in the evenings.
Unlike London, an Aussie bushie was not a common life-form in a small rural
village back then. I worked hard, but found that patrons were drifting up
the hill from the only other pub in town to listen to my outrageous yarns
and colourful stories, some of which were true. I was treated with enormous
kindness and am sad to hear of its closing but look forward on an upcoming
visit to enjoy English pubs and the atmosphere & hospitality again. |
