The Red Lion was situated on Hedsor Road. The
name was later changed to The Old Red Lion and then Masons at time of
closure, when it was converted to use as a Moroccan restaurant, which has
now also closed. |

The Red Lion was run by Alf and Bet
Austin in the early 1970’s. I met their daughter Lori in the pub in 1972 (
she was a barmaid) and married her in 1973. Our 50th anniversary is on 27th
January 2023. Another barmaid was Penny who supported Arsenal, and played
women’s football. Amongst the regulars were staff from a motor racing team
that was in Bourne End at the time. |

I can remember having a small party there as a going away present as my
parents & & myself migrated to Melbourne Australia on March 13th 1974 &
have been there ever since, unfortunately names seem to escape me at the
moment I used to ring the pub around 1975. & i believe the red lion had
changed hands & was told the friends I had earlier had left the area,
but still good happy memories of my younger days |
