Rose & Crown

Date of photo: 2014

The Rose & Crown was first licensed in 1863, was renamed The Horse & Hounds in 1967, before becoming the last of the village's pubs to close its doors in 1984. It is now used as a private residence.
In the centre of the little settlement which is Buckland Common, this was a plain, rather bright little Allied Breweries inn which relied quite heavily on bikers for its trade, closing for good in 1984. Important, not so much in itself, but due to the fact that it was the last of the three pubs in Buckland Common to cease its community function.
