The Crown was situated on the High Street. This
pub was used as a bank in the 1965 film The Big Job, starring Sid James. It closed in July 2013. |
|
Best known as Mr Mainwaring's bank, a role which it assumed
for the filming of Dad's
Army,
this was another unprepossessing little Allied pub which, oddly, still had a
jug and bottle right up until its final demise as a pub. A budget makeover
in the late sixties/early seventies was seemingly expected to last for
thirty years as I don't recall much else was being done to it. Since it
stuttered to a halt as a pub, it had a rather fitful existence as a wine
bar/restaurant. |
