The Kings Head was situated at 9 Oxford Street. Now demolished, a branch of Chicken Cottage stands on the site.

The pub moved from number 9 to a few doors down - not sure when but before 1974/5 when I moved there. Its now Dennis's Flame Grill. It became known as "Byrds" in the early eighties when it became more of a night club / bar with dancing and a formal dining area.  My parents were the landlord and landlady from 1974/5/6 to about 1985/6. I think it became a pasta restaurant not many years later. It was a Courage brewery pub when we arrived, then Ind Coope, then Benskins.

Robert Woods account is correct . His parents john and Margaret woods were the initial landlord and landlady of the kings head before it had a refit and changed it’s bane to Byrds. I was then the landlord for about a year and a half before joining the head office of benskins based in watford . Sorry to learn it is no longer a pub
