My parents, John and Maureen Algar were the landlord and
lady of this pub. We moved to Wycombe in 1972 and the pub was pretty run
down at the time, they gradually built up a huge regular crowd of
customers, almost entirely black guys from St. Vincent who came to
listen to the reggae and ska played at full volume at the weekends. A
very happy, popular pub with a brilliant atmosphere, absolutely packed
on Friday and Saturday nights. |
