Date of photo: 2008

The Rose & Crown was situated on Main Street. Now a private dwelling known as Rosebery Farm, the building dates from circa 1609. Before the 1881 census it was The Stanhope Arms (after Earl Stanhope, then lord of the manor). By 1881 and thereafter it was called The Rose and Crown (in deference to the Earl of Rosebery , the new lord of the manor).  In 1917, when part of the estate was sold off, it was bought by the tenant, Jesse Knight ,and closed.
