The Sprat

The Sprat was situated on Loosley Hill. This pub
opened in the 1600s and closed in 1918, with the licence being transferred
to The Whip in Lacey Green. It was converted into two cottages, North Sprat
and South Sprat. This was licensed to Jesse Rixon for
over 50 years, until his demise in 1901, His wife, Caroline Rixon, carried
on until 1907, when she died in Loosley Row. The 1872 Buckinghamshire,
Beerhouse list, gives the his length of Licence, as over 50 years. Messrs.
Wethered of Marlow were the owners at the time. It was originally known as
The Chequers and converted into two cottages, North Sprat and South Sprat
upon closure. |
