Old Bell

Its 1827 valuation shows it as a freehold public house, occupied by Thomas King, with a garden and woodbarn. On each side of the house is a cottage containing 2 rooms.
As a boy I remember this deserted public house, it was adjacent to the "London Road Garage" at the top of the hill, on the Stony Stratford side of Loughton (north side of the London Road, A5). It was pulled down in 1952/3 by the garage, to make their lorry yard larger. We collected some of the shiny brown glazed bricks to make our fish pond.
