The Griffin

Date of photo: 1930s

The Griffin was situated on Mop End Lane. This pub was present by 1775 when it was acquired by Weller Brewery. It closed in the 1930s and is now used as a private house. The final publican, George Wilkins, was also a chair-maker and the pub doubled up as a workshop, evidence of which are the stacked up chairs outside the pub in the above photo. It's now a residential dwelling called Griffin Cottage.
