Admiral Hood

The Admiral Hood was situated on St John Street.
Its 1827 valuation shows it as a freehold public house, occupied by Thomas Allbright, with a small woodbarn, piggery and granary over, a yard containing stabling for 20 horses with a small cottage garden etc. in the occupation of Levy, coachmaster. Part of the premises are leasehold for a term of 40 years from 1810 at a rental of £10 p.a. Publican in 1827 was Thomas Allbright.

This pub was nicknamed The Potato Pit, because you went down steps into the bar. It was demolished for the widening of St John Street in the 1950s/60s
