The Rose & Crown
was situated on the High Street . It
was reputedly where King Edward V stayed
the night before he was taken to London in 1483 by his uncle Richard Duke of
Gloucester, who later became King
Richard III.The Inn is
now a private house but a plaque on the front wall gives a brief account of
the event.
King Edward V and his younger brother Richard were the Princes in the Tower.
They were taken to the Tower of London by their uncle Richard Duke of
Gloucester, supposedly for the safety but were never seen again. It is
widely believed that they were murdered by, or on the orders of, the Duke
but there is no actual proof of this. |
