The Dumb Flea was situated on Chiswick
End. This pub was present by 1858 when the publican was Benjamin Payne. This
pub closed in 1956 following the brewery's refusal to install proper
drainage for the one tap over the kitchen sink, as per the council's
request. Waste from the sink used to flow into the ditch at the side of the
pub. Over the years this pub has had several names including The Dumb
Fleece, The Dun Fleece, The Lord Of Dumfries and The Deaf & Dumb. This grade-II listed pub is
now in residential use. |
