The Blackfriars Arms was situated on St Augustine Road. This pub closed c2007 and was demolished following a suspected arson attack in 2010.

My father was Landlord of the Black Friars in the early 1950's and had many a "goodnight" He was Alfred Harry Bakewell the England Northants Cricketer. I have early recollections of Wisbech especially Woolworths with it's big wooden floor and a thearter somewhere near the Bridge. I also remember being able to walk to the end of the road to the park and the slide or slides that were "locked" with a wooden board on Sundays. The railway line ran at the far end of the park. I believe the family next to the pub were called Garner. We had moved by the mid 1950's to another pub in Fowlmere in Cambridgeshire.
