The Spread Eagle was situated at 5
Bridge Street. An earlier pub called The Eagle Tavern used to stand on this
site. It is now used as an estate agents office. The publican in 1916 was Mrs M Holmes. |

My parents ran the Spread Eagle pub in Wisbech from about
1951 - 1954 when they moved to the New Inn in Wootten, Kings Lynn (which
is currently still open).
Their names were Lawrence and Betty Porter; my father was a renowned
pianist in those days, with his own radio programmes on the BBC before he
married, and he continued to supplement his income by playing at functions
whilst running the pub.
