Bow Garrett

The Bow Garrett was situated on Brinksway. It has been closed for many years but still bears a sign promoting the much lamented Boddingtons Brewery of Strangeways, Manchester. Incidentally a "Bow Garrett" was a small workshop attached to a house or cottage where a hatter would carry out his trade using a large bow to manipulate fur to make felt for hats. Stockport was formerly a major hatting centre.
