The George was situated at 15 Wellington Road North. This pub closed on 6th December 2010.

I frequented the George Hotel during 1983-5. It had an unspoilt interior, and was probably the smartest pub in the area, but its main attraction was that it was owned by Liverpool brewery Higsons. It sold their Mild and Bitter and also Draught Bass and was a regular entry in the Good Beer Guide. These were eventually replaced by Boddingtons beers after their takeover of Higsons, and then the interior was ruined. A great shame for a pub in a prime site.
