The Original number was 9 Sandy Lane, but the Terrace of Buildings next to the Inn, were built in 1836, and a stone on the first building showed “Brewery Terrace 1836”. We do not know which Brewery as Richard Clarke & Co Ltd (Clarkes Brewery) did not have their name on the brewery until their new Brewery was bult in 1874. Certainly in 1841 and 1851 census’, The Rowland Hill is shown as No 19. We are descendants of the publicans who were in that Inn in the early 1800’s. Richard Clarke & Co Ltd was acquired by Boddington’s Breweries Ltd in 1963.
