My uncle Sam Liggett owned the pub from
the 50's until the late 60's. The pub had a lot of land to the rear on which
he used to keep horses and pigs for pork and bacon. He hunted locally and
appeared the type of gentleman publican which has now, I fear, become
virtually extinct. The brewery was Border Ales based in Wrexham and he
regularly visited the brewery taking a small me along sometimes as a treat.
The pub had a first floor ballroom with an authentic "sprung" floor. Spent
many a happy summer there in the 60's guzzling Vimto, playing on the local
farms and getting " locked" in the stocks on the village green. No Housing
Estates then just a quiet country village. |
