The Vine was situated on Church
Street. This pub closed in 1911 and
was the oldest still operating in the 20th century. It was a
Boddington house and founded in 1369. It had steep steps from the front door
and if a local policeman wanted a quick and easy booking, all he had to do
was to stand there a few minutes, though some imbibers did (in the language
of 1911) 'offer the constable a fight'. It
was being used as a chip shop at time of demolition c1960. |
