The Fighting Cocks inn, later called
the Dolphin Inn, was situated on Green Street. This pub was present by 1789
when it is mentioned in a letter of that year addressed to an agent of the
Enys family. Now demolished. A later tenant was John Lander, father of the
two celebrated African explorers Richard and John, who were born at the
Fighting Cocks in 1804 and 1806.
This property was demolished when Green Street was widened and a plaque
commemorating the birth place of Richard and John Lander was placed on the
wall of the adjacent building. |
