Ashopton Inn

Date of photo: 1940s

The Ashopton Inn has now disappeared under water when the Derwent valley was flooded to make way for the Ladybower Reservoir.

My great aunt owned the Ashopton inn. She was the first woman to own hotels in Derbyshire. Because she catered for all the top engineers who came to build the dam she was the last civilian to leave the village. Charlotte Butler. I still have some beautiful treasured silver and furniture from the hotel.
