The New Inn was situated on Buxton Road. Built in 1827 by Richard Arkwright Jnr, on what was then called Mill Street, the Commercial Inn was run in its early years by Edward Rogers. By 1842 its name had changed to the New Inn, possibly with a change of landlord as the 1841 census has John Higgott in occupation. Its life as a hostelry was pretty short-lived, closing at some point between 1864 and 1875. John Higgott was still there in 1861, but died in 1867. Perhaps the New Inn died with him. The building was then used as a brewery store, later a clothing factory but is now in residential use.
