White Hart

The White Hart was situated on the High Street. This pub was known as The Hart at time of closure in 2009.
i started drinking in the Angel in clowne when i and some mates were around 15, we used to go to the off license after youth club with the girls , we were on bitter and the girls on babychams , occasionally we would venture there in the lunch hour and get a quick one passing pleasantries with some of our teachers who were in the main bar lol ,
They would just tell us to make sure we didnt arrive back in school drunk, we moved on to the white hart after leaving school and some of us were courting, so from 16 years old onwards , looking back we were spending some serious money in there between us , it would not be unusual for one of us to go for a round of drinks which would be 5 or 6
pints and then shorts for the females and usually crisps, nuts or toasties which were cooked behind the bar in a toaster oven wrapped in some sort of cling film, the order would cost maybe £8 or £10 which was a good days wage back then and we would have a few rounds during the night before heading off to candlins chip shop just round the corner , one of my favourite memories was over the years the police coming in and checking ages, for some reason we never got asked, we did dress well and really were no trouble , But one time they came in on a friday 29th june has it happened and they came to our table and asked me for my date of birth , 29/06/1961 officer is said and he just gave me a look while working out i was 18 that day, and then he said i am sure i have seen you drinking in here before to which i replied you may have but you didnt ask, there was quite a few sniggers around the table and luckily he didnt ask anymore ages has i was far from the youngest, There was a guy we used to know around with called Graeme Ashley who was diabetic and quite small but a good few years older than us who was always getting asked his name when anywhere other than clowne especially
when he was on his motorbike, but they knew him locally and he was left alone, the Landlord of the white hart had two daughters, Diane and Pauline i think who were older than us and stunners so of coarse we all had a go at chatting them up, we never got far but i think they enjoyed teasing us and it kept us coming back, at one time there was 11 pubs and clubs in clowne and it was a much smaller place then now i think there are 4 and even those are not open 7 days a week
