The Royal Oak was situated on Tennant Street and is the right hand building
in the above photograph. This pub was built in 1874 and closed in 1920. |
|
Although built as a pub - the thralls are still in the cellar - it seems
that it never actually opened. The building has been in City Council
ownership since at least 1956 and probably since before the Second World
War. It was the home of Derby Council Water Department until 1974 and then
South Derbyshire Water Board. Recently it has been the home of the Derby
City Registry Office. |
