The Quiet Woman was situated off the
B5053. This pub is reputedly over 400 years old with the Heathcote family
running it for 300 of them. Joseph Heathcote was certainly there as an
innkeeper at the time of his death in 1811. The last Heathcote there was
probably his great grandson Herbert Heathcote who was there until the 1920s.
The last publican was Ken Mellor who sadly died in August 2020. The pub died
with him. |

We reported on the closure of this simple
cottage pub following the death of landlord Ken Mellors back in February
2021. A substantial renovation has been taking place including rebuilding of
the toilet block. The planning documents associated with this indicate that
it is to reopen as a public house, which is good news. However, photographs
of the building works seem to show that the interior has been completely
stripped out. No doubt we will get a clearer picture in due course. |
