The Jodrell Arms was situated on Market
Street. This is an iconic Grade II listed building and is the place the body
of William Wood was first taken following his infamous murder in 1823. The
pub, which was built in the 16th Century, closed its doors in the mid 2000's
after being sold to a businessman who has had plans approved to turn it into
a gastropub and hotel although it has has stood empty for more than a
decade. The landlord during the 1980's was Jack Bond, former Captain of
Lancashire County Cricket Club. |

Member of Staff . Was a lovely, friendly place and the
locals were friendly folk. I worked there whilst waiting to go to
nursing school and loved it. |
