The Stoneheads was situated at 5-7
Stoneheads. This pub was named after an old soldier who used to tell
horrific war tales. It was located on the Manchester to Buxton old road
which linked Whaley Bridge with Disley. In the early 19th century the
original line of the road was re-routed to the present A6 to make the
journey far less of a challenge to horse drawn traffic. Shortly after the
re-routing of the main road the licence was transferred to the Soldier Dick
in Furness Vale, a pub which is still going strong to this day. The original
building on Stoneheads is now a private dwelling. |
