Date of photo: 1912

The Homesford Cottage was situated on the A6, just north of Whatstandwell. It was in existence by at least 1841 when William Hoades was the publican. The black & white image is c1912 when the licensee was William Elliott. The girl is his daughter Edna. William was fined £15 for overcharging by 1d on a bottle of stout and failing to exhibit a price list in the taproom in contravention of the 1919 Profiteering Act, if the Manchester Guardian is to be believed. A Hardy Hanson's pub selling their Kimberley Ales it closed c2009. It now offers self-catering accommodation.
