Kings Arms

The Kings Arms opened in 1823 when the publican was Susan Crocker. This grade-II listed pub closed in 1910.

Listed building details:
House, formerly a public house. Probably C18 extended at rear in C19.
Stone rubble, front range plastered. Asbestos tile roof with gabled ends and catslide at rear over outshuts. Plastered stone rubble gable end stack and tall stone rubble rear lateral stacks with yellow clay louvred pots.
Plan: 2-room plan house; the straight staircase at the centre which forms a lobby entrance might have been inserted into a cross-passage; another cross- passage was formed to the right of the staircase containing the right hand room smaller. The right hand room has a gable end stack and the left hand room is heated from a lateral stack at the back. In the C19 a heated outshut was built at the rear, the right hand hand end of which is an outbuilding; deeper in plan and with a separate side entrance.
Exterior: 2 storeys. Symmetrical 3-window east front facing the sea.
First floor left early C19 section pane sash, and at centre 2-light horizontally sliding sash with glazing bars. The other windows are later C19 4 and 6-pane sashes. Central doorway with early C19 6-panel door and open-fronted rendered porch with slate lean-to roof and stone seats inside against side walls. Right hand side has plank door to store in rear outshut.
The main roof is carried down at rear as catslide over rear outshut, the left hand end of the outshut projects and to left of centre a plank door.
Interior: Is remarkably unaltered since the C19. Matchboard partitions and plank doors including plank doors at bottom of stairs. The left hand room has C18 glazed china cupboard in corner, set upside panelled corner cupboard and C20 tiled fireplace in lateral stack. The right hand room has old benches against walls and C19 range in large fireplace.
The rear outshuts and first floor rooms were not inspected.
