The Portobello Inn was situated at 37 Silver Street. This pub was present by 1830 when the publican was William Cawsey.
 
This pub has now reopened.

In 1896 the publican was Joshua King. The pub was later run by his oldest son, Joshua Henry King, with his wife Annie King.Joshua Henry King served under Major General Clements in the 27th (Devonshire) Company 7th Battalion Imperial Yeomanry (1899 - 1902) in the Second Boer War. He was wounded in the Battle of Nooitgedacht, Krugersdorp District, South African Replublic on 13 December 1900, but survived, returning to Devon soon after.
