Ilminster Stage, Culmstock

The Ilminster Stage was situated on Fore Street.

My gran and granddad, Fred and Lottie Norman ran this pub from sometime in the 1950s up until 1977. It was then called The Ilminster Inn. But the name was changed after they left and the original layout of the rooms was changed by knocking walls down. The original large wooden doors for horse and coaches shown in the old photo below, were also there until 1977.

The arch next to the pub did not belong to the pub but to Fern Villa the house next door which led to a court yard and stables .I presume it was taken down to allow off road parking.
