The Grand Hotel
was situated on Station Road. This pub was present by 1869 under the name
Albert. Tied to Dawlish Brewery, the name was changed in 1904 to The Grand
Hotel. Passed on to Heavitree Breweries in 1926 and closed c1985. Now
demolished and replaced by flats. |

I used to go to the Grand Hotel in
1983. I went back to Dawlish in the 1990s to the railway cafe and was
shocked to see only a concrete slab where the Grand used to be. I asked the
staff what happened to it, they said they had been there 10 years and had
never heard of it. Very sad as they were among the first to have a video
duke box. It was a violent town at that time. |

My father and step mum used to own this
hotel. Sad to see it gone. Many happy memories and a couple not so
happy. |
