The Fairmile Inn was on the main road between
Honiton and Exeter. In 1999 the new A30 dual carriage way
by-passed Fairmile, and subsequently the pub
lost passing trade, closing in 2003. It has now been converted into two
houses.

The Inn was run by PRHA (Peoples Refreshment
House Assoc). The managers from 1930 to 1956 were Kate and Alan Eade.( My
grandparents). Their daughter who still lives in Exeter was born at the Inn
in 1933. My mother worked there from 14 years of age. Both my mother and
auntie were married at the local Escot Church.
I have photos of my brother and I playing at the front of the Inn and
picking conkers from the trees across the road. About 10 years ago I saw an
English TV programme about houses being auctioned and then being renovated.
I was surprised to see the Fairmile Inn on the show. |
