building details: |
House. C17 and circa late C18. Walls
partly rendered cob, partly brick. Gable-ended thatch roof to cob part,
hipped slate roof to brick part. 2 brick stacks - 1 at each end of cob and
thatch part.
Plan: the older part is to the left and consists of 2 rooms each heated by
an end fireplace. Originally it was integral with the adjoining cottages to
the left but the plan form and subdivision is unclear. C18 addition at right
end which was probably a good quality parlour.
Exterior: 2 storeys. Asymetrical 4-window front of which the right-hand
1-window section is brick C18 addition which projects slightly and is lower.
The older left- hand part has 2 and 3-light C20 casements. The brick part
has a late C19 6-pane sash on the 1st floor and a 3-lignt C20 casement below
it. Against the left-hand end of this part is a leanto brick porch with C20
plank door and narrow stained glass light to its right. The right-hand end
of the building has 3 full-height segmental arched recessed panels which
originally had arched windows on the 1st floor. The central panel has a C20
tripartite 20 pane sash window and there is a single light C20 casement in
the panel to the left, below are 1 and 2-light C20 casements and glazed door
to the right.
Interior: old part has chamfered axial beam and open fireplace with
chamfered and stopped wooden lintel. Roof has simple pegged A-frame frames,
probably C19. |
