In that era the Haldon Thatch Restaurant was run by an ex
company director that we can only remember as ' Neville ' It was the
first experience of Haute Cuisine that we had ever had the pleasure of.
Whatever happened to that guy? He was outstanding! |

Ambler |
1970s |
Regarding the above posting, I am delighted to say Nevile Ambler was my
wonderful Dad. My sisters and I had the joy of growing up at Haldon
Thatch until about 1977. It was my parent's first restaurant, my Mum
Elizabeth was the brilliant and award winning chef. They went on to run
Hendersons in Tiverton (now the Golden Panda) after retiring from the
Hospitality industry. It was a joy to see this post as I have great
memories of living there - birthdays in the field out back, picking
plums from the trees, a tree falling close to the building during a
storm etc. It was my Dad's dream to run Haldon Thatch after being made
redundant in London. He was much loved by his regular customers, many
became life-long friends. When he was sadly forced to retire in the late
80's, he carried on sharing his love and good humour by volunteering. |
