The Camels Head
was situated
on Wolseley Road. Built in 1825, it was closed and demolished in 1988 to
make way for road widening. It was known as The Submarine at time of closure. |

I worked behind the bar of The Camel’s Head pub in Plymouth for a year or
two in the mid-1970’s. Ernie and Freda Holderness were the managers (they
later went to run a pub in Albert Road, Plymouth) and a lady called Ethel
was the, ‘postman’. Monday was darts night in the public bar. On Thursday
evenings in the lounge there was a folk singer and on Friday and Saturday
nights there was a DJ. |
