Good Companions

Good Companions, Plymouth

The Good Companions was situated on Mayflower Street. This pub was closed in 2008 and converted to the Flavela eatery and nightclub. This stayed open for nine months, closing in 2009. It was demolished in 2017.
The ‘Goodies’ used to be a regular for Deck & Engineer Cadets at the Plymouth Nautical College in Portland Place, back in 1972/73/74. I lived in Torbay and managed to get home most weekends – but a fellow local (the late Steve Lyons) had an MG Midget and would drive like a mad thing to get us back to the Goodies on Sunday night for last orders, leaving Torbay at 9.00pm!
Bear in mind that the duel carriageway didn’t exist back then, it was the old A38 in those days!
