The North Country Pink was situated at
4 Barbican. This pub was present by 1857 and has
now been demolished. |
|
It was once run by my 5th great uncle and aunt,
James Wyatt and Mary Wyatt (nee Kerslake).
In 1835, it was featured in a murder trial, my 3rd great grandfather,
William Kerslake Sargent also worked there and later became the owner.
The murder trial was about a chap called Henry John Honey who murdered his
wife in a drunken rage, after she discovered his infidelities and he had
been drinking at the North Country Pink prior to his actions and William
Sargent had been serving him drinks.
William had married in about 1836/37 to Mary Lishmund and lived there until
his very early death in 1850, at the age of 42 - he literally drank himself
to death.
He and Mary had 7 children at the pub and they have many, many living
descendants. |
