Rising Sun

The Rising Sun was situated on Plymouth Road and was present by the early
19th century. It changed its name to The Roundabout in 1974, closed in 1986,
and was demolished in 1988 to make way for the new
Marsh Mills flyover and roundabout. There is now a Premier Inn on the site. |

After the pub closed,
it became a home and support centre for recovering alcoholics. The man that
ran it was a former Merchant Navy officer, who had had a battle with the
bottle. |
