The Anchor Inn has now been converted into three cottages. This was the main Exeter to Plymouth road and it's at this coaching Inn that coaches used to stop on their way westward to have an extra horse attached to the team before ascending the very steep hill to Haldon beyond the village. It's documented that George 111 stopped here in 1789.
