The Market House was situated at 24 Brunswick Place. Also known as The Market Inn, it was used as a salesroom following closure.
My grandfather, Cyril Extence, used to drink in this pub and gave me a drinking mug that he was given when it closed (see photo below). On the mug it is called The Market Inn, not The Market House as stated and a written piece of paper inside notes that the last landlord was Sid Parr. I notice written on the sign in the image that it is called Parr's Market Inn. It is known to have been licenced in 1838, but by 1960 had become the Liberal Club and then a tobacco warehouse, before becoming the site of Lewis and Rowden's auction house until its' closure some years ago. It is now a sewing shop.
